Did you check all your solder joints to make sure they are solid? Have you tried adjusting the brightness on the dial? Are you certain the resistor value is correct? Does the unit still have its original capacitators? As those go bad, they can cause the screen to appear dim. There are so many different things that can go wrong when electronics are this old. They have an active community and might be able to help you better. They will almost certainly ask for pics of your work to see if they can spot what's wrong.
